Yoga is not merely a set of gentle body movements, or stretching exercises. It brings us inner peace, harmony and body awareness that is essential to achieving an overall wellbeing. All that, and a leaner, stronger, well toned body too! Yoga helps us reconnect, rebalance, and revitalize our Body, Mind & Spirit.

The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj means to enjoin, to connect, to come together, and is often interpreted as union. A male yoga practitioner is called a yogi, and a female yoga practitioner is called a yogini.

The Indian sage Patanjali is credited with the compilation of art of yoga into the Yoga Sutra approximately 2000 years ago. The word Sutra means a link, a thread, a collection. Even though Yoga has evolved over time, especially in the western world, the 195 gems of wisdom, statements contained in Yoga Sutra still forms the philosophical foundation of modern day yoga. Yoga Sutra outlines eight limbs of yoga: the yamas (restraints), niyamas (observances), asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), dharana (concentration), dhyani (meditation), and samadhi (absorption). As we explore these eight mutually complementary aspects of Yoga, we start seeing changes in the way we interact with the outside world, leading to an inward focus resulting in inner peace and relaxation, untimately climaxing in a state of resonance, enlightenment, and samadhi.

However, reaching samadhi takes time and a lot of practice. Most people start with the asana (yogasanas or yogasans) which is a program of physical postures that help purify the body and provide the physical and inner strength, leading to a state of meditation.

The body of knowledge, experiences, refinements, and yoga techniques that individual yoga practitioners gather over time is enormous, but is often difficult to tap into for promoting the greater good. eYoga.org hopes to remedy that by providing you many ePublishing tools, including easy to use content creation technologies to:
