When choosing a yoga class or an instructor, here are some of the things to keep in mind:
- Choose a convenient location so that you will be more likely to attend regularly.
- Verify that the class is being held in a clean, well-maintained, welcoming room or studio.
- Inquire whether the mats and any needed accessories are provided. If the studios requires you to purchase/supply your own mat and any other props, inquire about the cost involved.
- Inquire whether they offer any discounts if you sign up for a series of classes.
- If you're a beginner, consider joining a studio that offers a small class, and provides more personal attention to each student.
- The instructor should ask first-time visitors whether they have any pre-existing health complications and/or injuries and work with them by customizing the program to include alternate/safer poses.
- The instructor should demonstrate correct and incorrect forms of Yoga Positions (yogasans) to help students clearly know the corrent form.
- If something (a pose, etc.) bothers you, or if you are not at ease with something, your instructor should be able to work with you to remedy the problem. After all, Yoga is all about inner peace.
- The Yoga studio must offer a wholesome, peaceful, comfortable environment.
- A yoga center that feels like am aerobic boot camp and an instructor that comes across as drill sergent is certainly a studio to avoid.
